Why Matcha Yu Tea tastes different

Why Matcha Feels Different to Coffee?
No jitters. No 3pm crash.
Just clean, steady energy that lasts.
Thanks to the natural combination of caffeine and L-theanine, matcha supports calm focus — not burnout.
Once you feel the difference, it’s hard to go back.
Our Journey To Tea
Hi I’m Erin , founder of Matcha Yu Tea and a lifelong Japan-lover.
I discovered Matcha while living in Kyoto in 2010 and loved its calm, steady energy and beautiful taste. Switching from coffee made me feel better — no jitters, crashes, or headaches.
When I returned to Australia, I couldn’t find matcha like I’d enjoyed in Japan. So I began sourcing it myself, bringing the Taste of Japan in a Cup to Australia.

FAQ
Since 2018, we’ve sourced exceptional Japanese Matcha directly from trusted tea producers in Japan.
Our Matcha is crafted from 2025 first-harvest leaves grown in renowned tea regions, freshly milled to order, and carefully cold-stored to preserve its vibrant colour, delicate aroma, and depth of flavour.
We refrigerate all Matcha to slow oxidation and protect its integrity from farm to cup.
Proudly recognised with industry awards and trusted by thousands of customers across Australia, we remain committed to delivering a true Taste of Japan in a Cup.
Matcha is green tea leaves that have been ground down into a fine powder. In the week's prior to tea harvest, shade covering is applied over the tea plants to block sunlight. Chlorophyll and antioxidant content increases. Once ready for picking, the tea leaves are quickly steamed and air dried to reduce oxidising and remove moisture then finally ground down into a fine powder
It's not that tricky! The key tip is to use something that will effectively suspend/dissolve the Matcha powder in water. To prepare it:
- Add ½–1 teaspoon of Matcha to a bowl or cup.
- Pour in around 30ml of hot water (around 70–80°C).
- Whisk briskly in a zig-zag (M or W shape) until frothy and smooth using a bamboo or electric whisk.
- Top up with more hot water or your favourite milk (we recommend around 100ml)
Yes! Unlike regular green tea, where you steep and discard the leaves, matcha is made from the whole ground leaf. This means you get up to 10x more antioxidants, including catechins like EGCG, making it a supercharged, nutrient-rich drink. 🌱

Bitterness usually comes down to water temperature and storage.
Use water no hotter than 80°C — hotter water can burn the tea and bring out astringency.
Storage matters too. Keep matcha in an airtight, light-proof container in the fridge to slow oxidation, which can also cause bitterness.
Yes — you can make Matcha with a spoon if that’s all you have.
However, traditional tools like a bamboo whisk (chasen) make it much easier to fully dissolve the powder and create a smooth, creamy cup. We offer carefully chosen matcha tools if you’d like to explore the ritual further.
🍵 1–2 cups per day = ideal
This gives you:
- Calm, steady energy
- Around 60–140mg caffeine total (depending on how strong you make it)
- A solid dose of L-theanine for focus without jitters
🍃 Up to 3 cups = usually still fine
As long as:
- You’re not sensitive to caffeine
- You’re not having it late afternoon/evening
- You’re not feeling wired or anxious
