Why Matcha Yu Tea Tastes Different

Why Drink Matcha?
Matcha provides a clean, smooth energy boost that lasts — without the jitters or crash often associated with coffee.
This is thanks to its naturally occurring caffeine working in harmony with L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes calm, focused energy.

FAQ
Since 2018, we’ve sourced exceptional Japanese Matcha directly from trusted tea producers in Japan.
Our Matcha is crafted from 2025 first-harvest leaves grown in renowned tea regions, freshly milled to order, and carefully cold-stored to preserve its vibrant colour, delicate aroma, and depth of flavour.
We refrigerate all Matcha to slow oxidation and protect its integrity from farm to cup.
Proudlya recognised with industry awards and trusted by thousands of customers across Australia, we remain committed to delivering a true Taste of Japan in a Cup.
Matcha is green tea leaves that have been ground down into a fine powder. In the week's prior to tea harvest, shade covering is applied over the tea plants to block sunlight. Chlorophyll and antioxidant content increases. Once ready for picking, the tea leaves are quickly steamed and air dried to reduce oxidising and remove moisture then finally ground down into a fine powder
It's not that tricky! The key tip is to use something that will effectively suspend/dissolve the Matcha powder in water. To prepare it:
- Add ½–1 teaspoon of Matcha to a bowl or cup.
- Pour in around 30ml of hot water (around 70–80°C).
- Whisk briskly in a zig-zag (M or W shape) until frothy and smooth using a bamboo or electric whisk.
- Top up with more hot water or your favourite milk (we recommend around 100ml)
Yes! Unlike regular green tea, where you steep and discard the leaves, matcha is made from the whole ground leaf. This means you get up to 10x more antioxidants, including catechins like EGCG, making it a supercharged, nutrient-rich drink. 🌱

Bitterness usually comes down to water temperature and storage.
Use water no hotter than 80°C — hotter water can burn the tea and bring out astringency.
Storage matters too. Keep matcha in an airtight, light-proof container in the fridge to slow oxidation, which can also cause bitterness.
Yes — you can make Matcha with a spoon if that’s all you have.
However, traditional tools like a bamboo whisk (chasen) make it much easier to fully dissolve the powder and create a smooth, creamy cup. We offer carefully chosen matcha tools if you’d like to explore the ritual further.
